PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Peoria’s airport is naming its new international terminal after Ray LaHood to honor the hometown Republican who represented the city in Congress for 14 years and later became U.S. transportation secretary.

The (Peoria) Journal Star reports (https://bit.ly/1S9jytN ) that LaHood will be honored at an April 12 dedication ceremony at the General Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport.

Current U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx and Federal Aviation Administration chief Michael Huerta will also speak at the event.

LaHood says he’s honored to receive the recognition and proud of the work to improve the airport.

The $11 million Ray LaHood International Terminal will include a full-service customs and border protection facility and two additional gates. Funding comes from passenger facility charges.
