MASSAPEQUA, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say a Long Island motorist was found to be in possession of heroin after attempting to flee from police.

Nassau County police say the suspect, Shamiek Porter of Farmingdale, continued to drive as detectives attempted to conduct a car stop in Massapequa Thursday morning.

They say Porter drove across a front lawn, striking a brick wall, basketball hoop, mail box and two parked cars before coming to a stop.

Police say Porter was found to be in possession of 20 glassine envelopes of heroin and an undisclosed amount of cash. A passenger, Lindsey Wild of Lindenhurst, had over 50 glassine envelopes of heroin.

They were charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance.

It wasn’t immediately clear if they had attorneys who could comment on the charges.
