LORIS, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say a 3-year-old boy has been killed after he was hit by a SUV backing out of the driveway of a Loris home.

Horry County Deputy Coroner Tony Hendrick told media outlets that Joe Gause died at the hospital from head injuries about 30 minutes after he was struck.

Troopers say the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe was backing out of a driveway and hit the child, who was standing in the road.

The Highway Patrol says the driver has a suspended license, and troopers are investigating to see if other charges should be filed.
