MANOR, Pa. (AP) - Police have issued an alert to parents in a suburban Pittsburgh borough after three middle school students said they were approached by a man offering to give them toys.

Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education Mark Gross said in a letter to Hempfield Area School District parents that state troopers and Manor police have been notified.

Gross writes that a man tried to start a conversation with two West Hempfield Middle School students Wednesday morning and offered them toy cars before leaving in his vehicle.

The letter states the man then asked another student walking to his bus stop if he would like a toy car. The man drove away when the boy refused to talk.

All three told their parents about the man.
