BOSTON (AP) - A fire in a building at Boston University has injured several people and damaged a recording studio.

The fire broke out inside the studio at the College of Communication on Friday morning. The studio’s soundproofing material burned, creating a toxic smoke.

The university says three students and two university police officers suffered smoke inhalation and a city firefighter injured his face moving a grate.

The university says between 20 and 40 people were evacuated from the building. The fire was extinguished around 9:30 a.m.

Fire officials say the radio studio sustained an estimated $500,000 in damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The university says it believes an equipment malfunction is to blame.

The university plans to reopen the building Monday.
