COLUMBUS, Mont. (AP) - Stillwater County officials have released the name of an 86-year-old woman who died after being struck by an SUV east of Columbus.

Sheriff Clifford Brophy says Marian Maltsberger of Columbus died at around 6:20 a.m. Thursday.

Montana Highway Patrol trooper Todd Hagenbach says one person had stopped to check on the woman, who was lying in the road. That person’s headlights blinded oncoming westbound traffic and the SUV hit the woman.

Officials say the victim lived in the area and apparently was suffering from some type of dementia.

The sheriff’s office and the Montana Highway Patrol are still investigating.
