EAST MEADOW, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say an inmate at a Long Island jail has died while hospitalized.

Newsday reports (https://nwsdy.li/1MFZld5) the 63-year-old inmate died Thursday, a day after Nassau County jail medical personnel saw the man.

Authorities didn’t immediately identify the inmate.

The death comes as the jail and its private medical provider, Armor Correctional Health Services, have come under scrutiny. The state Commission of Correction found last year that Armor has a pattern of neglectful care and provided inadequate care in the deaths of four inmates since 2011.

The facility and Armor have defended their operations.

The inmate’s death is the third at the jail this year.

The state Attorney General’s Office is investigating the jail’s medical practices.
