BENNETTSVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say an 18-year-old man is under arrest after shaking his 1-month-old daughter so violently she died a short time later.

The State Law Enforcement Division said Friday David Garner is charged with homicide by child abuse.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown says Garner dropped off the baby to a fire station near his home Thursday after shaking her. The child died shortly after at the hospital.

Garner is being held at the Marlboro County jail. It wasn’t known if he has a lawyer.

Garner faces 20 years to life in prison if he is convicted.
