ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A 22-year-old Rochester woman has pleaded not guilty to a second-degree murder charge in her newborn baby’s death last year.

Police said Thursday that Lashae Bennett was taken into custody earlier this week but released few details. After her arraignment Friday authorities said Bennett gave birth to a girl last May 19 in her home and killed the baby the same day.

Police say they were notified through a 911 call that day reporting the baby’s death and an investigation was launched.

Bennett is being held in the Monroe County Jail without bail. It couldn’t immediately be learned from prosecutors if she has an attorney who could comment on the charges.
