CONWAY, S.C. (AP) - A Loris man has been sentenced to 30 years in prison after being convicted of homicide by child abuse in the death of his 3-month-old son.

A statement from the prosecutor’s office said that an Horry County jury deliberated about 90 minutes Thursday before returning the guilty verdict in the trial of Hassan Robert Tyler.

Tyler was arrested in December 2013. Earlier that month the child had died at a hospital after being taken there with bruises and a fractured skull.

Prosecutors say Tyler must serve 85 percent of the sentence before he’s eligible for parole.
