LOS ANGELES (AP) - Police say a husband and wife working at a Los Angeles convenience store were stabbed - the husband fatally - after confronting a man trying to steal malt liquor and a hot dog.

Lt. John Jenal of the Los Angeles Police Department said the couple was working Friday morning at a store in the San Fernando Valley when a man in his 40s walked in, grabbed a malt liquor and a hot dog and started to leave.

Jenal told the Los Angeles Times (lat.ms/1RBp6fY) that the female clerk confronted the thief, who stabbed her multiple times. He then stabbed the husband.

The suspect was arrested after police found him walking down the street with the drink and hot dog.

The wife was in critical condition. They have not been identified.
