PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - A Portland man convicted nearly 30 years ago of attempted murder faces new charges of sexual assault for an attack on a woman in Gresham.

The Oregonian reports (https://goo.gl/IMQTyL ) that 50-year-old Thomas Peacock was arrested without incident Thursday and is being held on $1 million bail.

Peacock is accused of attacking a 22-year-old Portland woman who had stopped to change a flat tire.

Police say the victim told them she had flagged down a man riding a bike and asked him for help. She says he then threatened her with a knife and forced her into a wooded area and attacked her.

Court records show Peacock’s criminal history includes robbery, burglary and a 1989 attempted murder conviction. He was released on parole in August 2015.
