PITTSBURGH (AP) - A teenager is suing a Pennsylvania juvenile detention center and one of its workers who is accused of soliciting her for sex.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in Allegheny County against the Shuman Juvenile Detention Center and 39-year-old Derrick Dawkins of Pittsburgh. It seeks unspecified monetary damages.

Dawkins is scheduled to be tried next month on charges including corruption of minors, endangering the welfare of children and official oppression.

Dawkins is accused of giving a note soliciting sex to a 16-year-old girl at Shuman in August.

The girl’s attorney says the center negligently hired and supervised Dawkins and is liable for her emotional distress.

Dawkins no longer works at the detention center. A Shuman spokeswoman declined to comment on the lawsuit.
