CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A 19-year-old man has been shot and killed while apparently attempting to rob another man at gunpoint.

Police tell local media outlets that Steven Hurston was shot dead when officers arrived at the scene just after midnight Saturday in North Chattanooga.

The person who shot Hurston, 30-year-old Joshua Smith, told Chattanooga police that Hurston tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Smith says he’d arranged to meet a woman online at a duplex in the area. He says he was walking to the duplex when Hurston came out from behind the duplex, pointed a gun at his and demanded money.

Police say investigators are still working to confirm details of the case, and haven’t said yet whether Hurston’s death was justified.
