ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque environmental officials have issued a health alert in the wake of blowing dust.

The city’s Environmental Health Department announced the alert Saturday morning.

It remains in effect until 8 p.m.

Officials say high winds may be causing elevated levels of particulate matter.

The resulting dust can add to pollution.

People who are sensitive to blowing dust such as those with asthma or respiratory diseases are being encouraged to limit outdoor activity.

Children and the elderly may also be affected.

The department is recommending keeping doors and windows closed and not exercising outside.
