WINCHESTER, Va. (AP) - Baseball great Cal Ripken Jr. has been selected as the sports marshal for the 89th Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival in Virginia.

A member of the Baseball Hall of Fame, Ripken’s selection was announced Friday in Winchester.

The Winchester Star (https://bit.ly/25pHnHy) reports that the Shenandoah Apple Blossom Festival runs from April 22 to May 1. Ripken will be the featured speaker at sports breakfast on April 30 and will ride in a parade.

The 55-year-old Ripken spent his entire career with the Baltimore Orioles.

Entertainer Wayne Brady will be the grand marshal of the festival.
