ATLANTA (AP) - A former Atlanta police officer has been charged with aggravated assault as a result of a fight he had with another officer.

Media outlets report that the incident took place on March 18 at the R. Thomas Restaurant in Atlanta. Atlanta police Officer Lukasz Sajdak says officers Stephen Green, Joseph Tyer and a handful of other officers met there for dinner. The officers bantered about who would be faster in a foot race, Green or Tyer.

Sajdak says the conversation escalated into an argument, which lead to blows being exchanged between the two officers.

Tyer allegedly pulled his service weapon, but no shots were fired.

Police said Friday that Tyer has been arrested and is not a fugitive. He resigned from the force earlier in the week.

Green is on administrative leave.
