PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A Maine entrepreneur who created dog biscuits made with lobster meat says they were so popular that she’s created something for their human masters.

Pat Havener, of Friendship, says she started the business in 2012 when lobster prices were so low that her husband, a lobsterman, was having trouble selling his catch.

She tells WMTW-TV that they used excess lobster for dog treats and that her dog-loving customers consistently told her they wanted her to make something for them as well. So she came up with “Gourmet Lobster Crackers” last summer. The crackers have bits of lobster meat baked into them.

Greg Havener said lobstermen are always looking for ways to add value to their catch. He said that his wife’s business is allowing him to do just that.
