PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) - Portland police say a 25-year-old man was killed while trying to cross Interstate 5.

North Precinct officers were called to I-5 northbound at Lombard Street at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

They found a man who had suffered traumatic injuries. Efforts to save him were not successful and he died at the scene.

Police believe the man was trying to cross the freeway when he was hit. Police did not immediately identify the man.

The driver of the car that struck the man was at the scene and cooperated with police. He did not show signs of impairment. No arrests were made.
