PHOENIX (AP) - Police are searching for a suspect accused of brazenly trying to sexually assault a woman in a downtown Phoenix apartment building.

Investigators say the incident happened last week in the area of 3rd Street and Fillmore.

According to authorities, the suspect entered the building March 19 around 8:20 p.m. by going through a gate right before it shut.

Surveillance video shows him following the 21-year-old victim into an elevator.

Police say the suspect pretended to be searching for another apartment but then forced his way into the victim’s home.

But a roommate appeared and chased the suspect off.

Video shows him fleeing into the elevator and changing clothes.

He is described as Hispanic or Native American, roughly 5-foot-8, in his early to mid-20s and with black or brown hair.
