BAYONNE, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a man was driving drunk when he struck a barrier on the Bayonne Bridge and then abandoned the badly damaged car, leaving four injured passengers behind.

Port Authority police say one passenger was ejected through the windshield when the crash occurred in the northbound lanes around 4 a.m. Saturday.

The 55-year-old woman suffered multiple injuries including several rib fractures, two broken feet, a broken nose, broken left wrist and facial injuries. Three men who were riding in the vehicle were treated at hospitals for undisclosed injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

The driver, 30-year-old Bayonne resident Eliezar Delgado, was later found in Staten Island, New York. He’s facing several charges, including vehicular assault with injury and leaving the scene of an accident with serious injury.

It wasn’t known if Delgado has retained an attorney.
