PAWTUCKET, R.I. (AP) - Police have identified a Pawtucket man who was shot and killed by a city police officer.

Authorities announced Friday that Dominique Silva had died from gunshot wounds.

Police say Officer Julianne Borsari approached Silva just before 6 p.m. Thursday on Webster Street regarding a possible crime.

Police say Silva pointed a weapon at Borsari before fleeing. They say Silva pointed the weapon at Borsari again during a foot chase, prompting Borsari to fire at him. It’s unclear what sort of weapon Silva had.

Pawtucket’s Director of Public Safety Tony Pires told WPRI-TV that an initial investigation indicates the use of force was appropriate. He says multiple shots were fired.

State police and the attorney general’s office are investigating.

Borsari is being questioned about the shooting as part of standard procedure.
