MINEOLA, N.Y. (AP) - Police have arrested a man who they say hailed a taxi to flee from a bank robbery on Long Island.

Nassau County Police say 28-year-old Monroe Williamson was arrested around 9:30 a.m. Saturday.

They say Williamson walked into a Chase bank branch on Old Country Road in Mineola and demanded money from a teller before grabbing the cash and running out.

But police say he didn’t make it very far. Williamson was arrested on a robbery charge after hailing a cab from a taxi stand nearby.

It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on the allegations.
