YUMA, Ariz. (AP) - A federal appeals court has resurrected two real estate development companies’ lawsuit against Yuma.

The suit accuses the city of illegally denying a request to rezone land to permit high-density housing.

The ruling Friday by the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reverses a trial judge’s dismissal of the lawsuit filed by Avenue 6E Investments LLC and Saguaro Desert Land Inc. against Yuma.

The lawsuit accuses the city of violating the federal Fair Housing Act and the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution.

The case now goes back to trial court for further proceedings.
