SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Police say a San Francisco sheriff’s deputy’s gun and bulletproof vest were stolen from his home in San Francisco.

San Francisco Police Officer Albie Esparza says officer responding a burglary call Friday discovered the deputy’s house ransacked.

Esparza tells the San Francisco Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1XTGKAb) the deputy’s 9mm Glock handgun, which had been secured in a lockbox, two loaded magazines, a duty belt and a ballistics vest were stolen.

Eileen Hirst, chief of staff for the San Francisco Sheriff’s Department, says the burglars also took a department-issued radio, which authorities managed to disable remotely.

In the last year, handguns stolen from law enforcement officers were used in the high-profile slayings of Kate Steinle in San Francisco in July and muralist Antonio Ramos in Oakland in September.
