SPRINGFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - State police say a driver trying to change lanes on the New Jersey Turnpike lost control of his car and ended up on an embankment off the roadway.

The driver and a female passenger were injured in the single-vehicle crash, which occurred around 1 p.m. Sunday in the northbound lanes near milemarker 47 in Springfield Township. Both were being treated at hospitals, but their injuries were not considered life-threatening.

The vehicle overturned multiple times before it ended up on the embankment.

The driver suffered injuries to his left arm and leg and had to be extricated from the vehicle. But details on the woman’s injuries were not disclosed.

The crash caused some brief travel delays in the area.

The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
