ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - A Baltimore man has been charged with drunken driving after plowing into a Virginia state trooper’s patrol car.

Police say the incident occurred at about 11:30 p.m. on Friday when the trooper was on a traffic stop on the shoulder of the eastbound lanes of Interstate 495 near Exit 173 in Alexandria. Police say during the traffic stop a Dodge Charger ran off the road and struck the trooper’s patrol car.

Police say the trooper had the lights of the patrol car activated at the time. The trooper was seated in the car when it was struck and was uninjured.

The driver of the Dodge, 43-year-old Larry Menefee, was arrested for driving under the influence and taken to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center.
