BUDA, Texas (AP) - Police say a 13-year-old Central Texas girl has died after being hit by a freight train as she walked along the tracks with a friend.

Police in Buda (BYOO’-duh) say Tanley Yacos was killed before dawn Saturday. Another girl who was with Tanley wasn’t hurt.

Investigators say a crewmember on the Union Pacific train saw the girls and blew the horn but the victim was still struck.

Counselors will be on hand Monday at Dahlstrom Middle School in Buda, about 15 miles south of Austin, where Tanley attended eighth grade.
