MINOT, N.D. (AP) - A district judge in North Dakota has set a date for the sex crime trial of Sawyer’s former superintendent and high school principal.

KXMC-TV (https://bit.ly/1UU04hq ) reports the trial against Charles Soper is scheduled to begin July 21.

Soper is accused of sexually abusing three teenage boys, and faces a total of eight charges, including human trafficking and child pornography. He resigned from the school after his arrest last May.

Soper has pleaded not guilty to all of the charges. He could face life in prison if convicted of the more serious allegations.

Defense attorney Eric Baumann had asked North Central District Judge Douglas Mattson to move Soper’s trial out of the region arguing that media coverage has tainted the jury pool. The prosecution disagreed and Mattson later scheduled the trial.
