DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - A former Iowa Supreme Court chief justice has died age 95.

State Court Administrator David Boyd says former Chief Justice W. Ward Reynoldson died Monday morning at a Des Moines hospice.

Officials with Dunn’s Funeral Home confirmed the death. Funeral arrangements are still pending.

Iowa court officials say Reynoldson served 16 years on the Iowa Supreme Court, including nine as chief justice. He left the court in 1987.

Reynoldson was born in St. Edward, Nebraska on May 17, 1920. Court officials say that after serving in the Navy during World War II, Reynoldson graduated from the University of Iowa Law School in 1948.

Gov. Terry Branstad said Reynoldson would “be greatly missed” and commended him for being a dedicated public servant.
