ROBBINS, N.C. (AP) - The North Carolina Highway Patrol says a 24-year-old man is dead in a crash that occurred as he tried to elude police at speeds up to 120 mph in Moore County.

Patrol Sgt. Jimmy Stahl tells local media that Roberto Velazquez of Robbins died shortly before midnight Saturday as he tried to flee from police.

A Robbins police officer was chasing Velazquez for speeding.

The victim’s car ran off a road, ran into some trees and burst in flames. The impact sent the motor of the car more than 100 feet from the wreckage.
