WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - In a story March 26 about a fatal stabbing in Warwick, The Associated Press, relying on information provided by Warwick police, reported erroneously on the relationship between the suspect, Jared Rogers, and the victim, Michael Rogers. Michael Rogers is Jared Rogers’ nephew, not his cousin.

A corrected version of the story is below:

Police arrest suspect in Warwick fatal stabbing

Police have arrested a suspect accused of fatally stabbing his nephew and injuring his brother

WARWICK, R.I. (AP) - Police have arrested a suspect accused of fatally stabbing his nephew and injuring his brother.

Twenty-year-old Jared Rogers was arrested Saturday afternoon in North Providence.

Police say he stabbed his nephew, 19-year-old Michael Rogers, and his brother, 30-year-old David Rogers, early Saturday morning at their Warwick home and then fled.

Michael Rogers died from his injuries. David Rogers is in stable condition.

Police say the men got into an argument and Jared Rogers stabbed them with a kitchen knife.

Jared Rogers was arrested in February 2015 for filing a false report of a crime after police say he falsely claimed he had injured his stepson. Rogers later admitted the child didn’t exist. Court records show he pleaded no contest in March 2015 and was sentenced to one year of probation.
