PRESCOTT, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say an Arizona man has died after falling into Lake Pleasant during a hike with a friend.

The Daily Courier reports (https://bit.ly/22UMmxK) that Maricopa County Sheriff’s spokesman Chris Hegstrom says 18-year-old Clayton Waggle of Prescott was trying to cross the cove at Castle Creek when the wind kicked up and knocked him off a natural shelf and into the water.

Hegstrom says the friend was able to grab onto a nearby buoy and went to the shore to get help.

Hegstrom says Waggle was taken by helicopter to a Phoenix-area trauma center and was pronounced dead that evening.

He says the shelf was at a depth of about 5 feet and the wind knocked the men into water between 7 and 10 feet deep.
