LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - Quebec City’s mayor is investigating the possibility of a bid for the 2026 Winter Olympics, and he has reached out to officials in Lake Placid regarding use of the region’s facilities.

Lake Placid hosted the Winter Games in 1932 and 1980.

The U.S. Olympic Committee would sign off on any American attempt to host the Olympics. USOC spokesman Patrick Sandusky said the federation has not been contacted by Canada’s Olympic committee, and if such contact were made, the USOC would tell Canadian officials their focus is solely on the 2024 Summer bid for Los Angeles.

Quebec City’s mayor, Regis Labeaume, is visiting the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, Switzerland.

Quebec City officials are also contacting former Winter hosts Calgary and Vancouver.
