BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) - A private university in Bristol has launched a student-led Conservation Corps aimed at affecting climate change policy.

The Providence Journal reports (https://bit.ly/1Tdz10D ) the corps at Roger Williams University wants to unite leaders from federal, state, municipal and academic groups to develop and implement forestry-related programs that will influence policy and improve the local environment.

U.S. Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, a Democrat, will deliver a lecture on Thursday to support the program.

The school hopes to work with leaders from the Rhode Island Tree Council, Providence and other agencies to identify opportunities for collaboration.
