SASABE, Ariz. (AP) - The Border Patrol says two horses will be state property after being used to smuggle drugs into Arizona.

Tucson Sector agents seized the horses on Sunday near Sasabe after detection technology observed them crossing into the U.S. illegally.

Two smugglers who rode the horses into Arizona fled to Mexico when they saw law enforcement was after them.

The horses were carrying nearly 100 pounds of marijuana total. The Border Patrol says they’ll be turned over to the Arizona Department of Agriculture.
