LANHAM, Md. (AP) - Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan will be in Maryland this week to celebrate the opening of an Islamic center.

Erdogan will be joined by Dr. Mehmet Gormez, Turkey’s president of religious affairs, at the event at the Diyanet Center of America in Lanham on Saturday April 2. The ceremony is open to the public.

The Diyanet Center of America is a complex that includes a mosque, cultural center, Turkish bath house and other facilities.

The center says there will be a series of workshops and exhibitions for the public to view, including ones on Islamic calligraphy and visual storytelling.
