CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Four people charged with beating a woman to death in 2014 are on trial for murder and sexual battery.

The Leaf-Chronicle reports (https://leafne.ws/22VxK14) a jury was seated Monday and opening statements began Tuesday morning in Circuit Court Judge Jill Ayers’ courtroom.

Derek M. Vicchitto, Matthew Lee Reynolds, Alphonso Jay Richardson and Cynthia Dianne Skipper all face multiple charges, including first-degree murder, in connection with the June 2014 beating death of 39-year-old Shirley Beck.

Roommate Kristin Wilkerson previously testified that Beck was known to be a “house slave.”

According to court testimony, Beck was found bound, beaten and sexually assaulted by four of her roommates.

The defense argues that Beck was killed during a BDSM (bondage, discipline, sadism and masochism) session that went too far.

Prosecutor Robert Nash says there is no excuse for what happened to Beck.
