SAN DIEGO (AP) - Lifeguards have rescued nearly two dozen members of a high school swim team who took a chilly and exhausting swim in the waters off San Diego.

Fire officials say around 20 teenagers were rescued Tuesday afternoon near La Jolla Cove. They were making a half-mile swim in choppy waters and were accompanied by coaches.

KGTV-TV (https://bit.ly/1ZJnd76) says two students were taken to a hospital and eight others were treated at the scene.

They became chilled or swallowed too much water.

However, a fire official says none of the problems appear to be serious.

The students were among some 60 swimmers from Rancho Verde High School in Moreno Valley, in neighboring Riverside County.
