JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a driver accused of running over another woman was trying to flee an attack by several people.

Jersey City police say Seynabou Fall, of Bayonne, faces charges of aggravated assault, criminal attempted homicide and a weapons count.

A city spokeswoman told The Jersey Journal (bit.ly/22LkwHE) that officials initially thought Fall intentionally ran over the woman Monday night because the two are involved in an ongoing dispute.

But police say Fall was sprayed with a chemical irritant when she approached the woman, and roughly 20 people then converged on her car. Fall tried to drive away, but her car then jumped the curb, hit the woman and knocked down a traffic light pole.

The 25-year-old victim remains hospitalized in critical condition. Fall is hospitalized in serious, but stable condition.
