HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities are investigating the discovery of a dog’s skull and other dog remains found buried in plastic bags and strewn around a wooded area on Long Island.

Nassau County police say a passer-by noticed what appeared to be an animal skull at the Roosevelt Preserve in Hempstead. An investigation determined it belonged to a dog. Other dog remains also were found there in various stages of decomposition.

Police asked Monday for anyone with information to contact them.
