DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - An official says an autopsy shows no signs of an attack on an inmate who died after being found unconscious in his Polk County Jail cell.
The Des Moines Register reports (https://dmreg.co/1pXqV0Z ) that results from toxicology testing are needed before officials can say what killed Lamont Walls, who was found unresponsive in his cell Friday.
Polk County medical examiner Gregory Schmunk says there were small scrapes on Walls’ head and knees that Schmunk says were the sorts of injuries “you would expect people to get during the course of an arrest.”
Des Moines police say Walls ran as officers tried to arrest him Wednesday. Police say that after Walls was caught and was being arrested, officers saw him swallow what they thought was a bag of narcotics.
