WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - Authorities have identified the body of a man found in the Intracoastal Waterway near Wilmington last week as a resident of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Lt. Jerry Brewer, the deputy sheriff for New Hanover County, said in a news release that the body has been identified as that of 61-year-old Francis Dellapelle. He says the medical examiner won’t know the cause of death until toxicology reports come back.

The body was found near the Figure Eight Island Bridge on March 23.

Authorities had said the body was likely in the water for as long as 36 hours before it was found washed up on a sandbar.
