BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) - The closed Vermont Yankee nuclear plant is bringing in an outside contractor to handle security at its Vernon reactor site beginning in late June.

Officials say Securitas Critical Infrastructure Services, an international firm based in Sweden, will continue to maintain the plant’s alarm systems, keep an armed security force on site and implement other measures.

Vermont Yankee security manager Patrick Ryan says plant owner Entergy Corp. had been planning to hire an outside security contractor since the plant closed at the end of 2014.

Securitas has provided its services to several other decommissioning nuclear plants, including in New England Connecticut Yankee, Maine Yankee and Yankee Rowe in Massachusetts.
