YORK, S.C. (AP) - A York man has been accused of breaking into a police car and stealing guns and tactical gear.

Citing jail records, The Herald of Rock Hill (https://bit.ly/1VQlqx9 ) reports that 20-year-old Wardarious D. Brown is charged with grand larceny and breaking and entering a motor vehicle.

A York County Sheriff’s Office report says someone entered a York police officer’s patrol vehicle on Friday and took a rifle and other equipment, including a ballistic vest that contained a .40-caliber handgun and magazines. It is unclear whether the car was locked.

Brown denied knowledge of the theft of the law enforcement equipment, but investigators say he later told officers he stole the equipment and put it in an unlocked storage closet at his aunt’s home. Deputies found the equipment inside the aunt’s home.
