PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - A Rhode Island man has pleaded guilty to a federal charge of traveling interstate to have sex with a minor in Maine.

Twenty-three-year-old William McNeill of Cumberland, Rhode Island, entered the plea Monday in Portland.

Federal prosecutors say McNeill was living in North Carolina in 2014 when he met a 14-year-old Cumberland County girl through an online dating website.

Prosecutors say McNeill communicated with the girl by computer and cellphone, and traveled from North Carolina to Maine in October 2014 to meet and have sexual intercourse.

McNeill faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of as much as $250,000. He scheduled to be sentenced July 11.
