ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York labor officials say they have recovered $1.35 million in fraudulently collected unemployment insurance benefits in this year’s first quarter.

According to the state labor department, the record quarterly amount was repaid by people who claimed benefits but were ineligible.

Suspect claims are investigated by the department and prosecuted by county district attorneys, resulting in restitution.

Last year, the office collected more than $3.7 million from 568 cases.

The largest amount - more than $153,000 - came from Erie County.
