RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - An emergency plane landing along a North Carolina interstate loop backed up rush-hour traffic on the north side of Raleigh.

Multiple media outlets showed images of a mostly intact single-propeller plane in the grassy median of Interstate 540 Tuesday morning.

WRAL-TV reported that the pilot was not hurt, citing radio communications between the pilot and the nearby airport. A Raleigh police spokesman didn’t immediately respond to an email seeking comment.

There pilot’s name was not available.

Raleigh-Durham International Airport said on its Twitter account that it had sent emergency crews to help but that airport operations were not affected.

A Department of Transportation camera showed traffic being diverted onto an exit by law enforcement while lights flashed on several emergency vehicles. Westbound lanes of 540 were shut down temporarily.
