ALTOONA, Pa. (AP) - Police say a boy playing with matches set a fire that damaged two houses and left nine people homeless in central Pennsylvania.

Altoona police aren’t naming the boy because of his age, but say he was playing with matches and set two mattresses on fire that were stored in an alleyway between the homes.

The fire started about 8 p.m. Saturday. Police say the boy tried to put out the fire with water, but couldn’t, so the fire spread to both homes.

Police plan to charge with boy with arson, risking a catastrophe and other crimes in Blair County juvenile court.
