BOSTON (AP) - Scandinavian Airlines has launched a new route it says will offer the first direct flight from Scandinavia to Boston.

The airline says in a statement issued Tuesday it’s set to operate about 500 flights between Boston and Copenhagen, Denmark, this year.

The service will operate year-round with flights departing daily from Boston and Copenhagen.

This is the company’s ninth direct route to the United States. The company already operates services between Scandinavia and New York, Washington, D.C., Chicago and San Francisco. It says it will introduce a route to Miami in September.

The airline is partly owned by the governments of Sweden, Denmark and Norway. It’s the largest airline in Scandinavia.
